• The tea factory “Guangdong Tea IMP. & EXP. Co., Ltd” was established in 1952. Since then, it has focused on the tea industry, achieving notable success in the late 1960s with advancements in Puerh tea evolution technology. Their own brand “Guangyun Tribute Cake,” made for export to Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, gained recognition. In 2002, they resumed tight Puerh tea production and launched a new brand, “Golden Sail Brand,” leveraging their unique know-how and recipe expertise in tea-making.

Disapponting, but with slow improvement over time.

This tea did not travel well. There was a very strong dank/fungal smell and flavour that was not my style at all. Some other lower priced teas I purchased in the same package had a similar profile, but with a few days airing, followed by neutral storage, and then temperature and humidity controlled storage, they quickly came back to life.

I really wanted to like this tea and have tried it several times over the past 6 months or so. In an attempt to "recover" the tea, I have broken the 250g tuo up into three pots wrapped nicely and with other aged sheng puerh teas. The dankness is slowly disappearing and the smell on one of the pots has mellowed to a less unpleasant, sweetish one. I had one session with this tea where I washed the leaves several times (usually I only do this once, or twice max), before pushing myself to drink past the dankness. After a few brews there was some flavour of a nice tea trying to get through, even some sweetness after a while, but it was tough going.

I believe this tea is salvageable to a certain extent, but it is going to take another 6 months to one year at least I think. Therefore it is difficult to recommend to casual drinkers who want to drink tea from the moment it arrives.
