Origination: "Lao Cha Tou" (Old Tea Head) is a unique byproduct of the manual fermentation process known as Wo Dui. During this process, the pectin in the tea leaves interacts with pressure and high temperature, causing chunks to form in the large piles of tea. Historically, these chunks, which couldn't be broken down, were discarded. However, over time, it was discovered that these "tea heads" had a unique and appealing flavor profile, characterized by higher sweetness and mellowness compared to general shou pu-erh. This discovery led to their utilization and the naming of these chunks as "Lao Cha Tou." In Chinese, "Tou" describes a chunk, and "Cha Tou" (Tea Head) also refers to the people responsible for making tea.

Within the DaYi lineup, "Lao Cha Tou" was introduced in 2006.

Taste Profile:

  • Flavor: The tea features a smooth and thick flavor, offering a rich and deep taste experience.
  • Sweetness: It has a pronounced caramel sweetness, a hallmark of its unique fermentation process.
  • Aged Character: The tea carries the distinct flavor of aged tea, adding to its complexity and appeal.

Storage: Stored naturally in Guangzhou, the "Lao Cha Tou" benefits from the region's favorable storage conditions, which help preserve and enhance the tea's distinctive qualities.
