This tea is made from carefully selected spring leaves from Yi Wu Tea Mountain.

The leaves are processed into long and tight threads, notable for their dark color.

Tea Profile

At a glance: 2007 · Sheng (raw) puerh · 357g cake · YiPinTang

The resulting tea liquor is clear and bright, indicative of its quality.

The taste is soft yet resilient, offering a pleasant drinking experience.

It features a refreshing sweetness combined with the unique flavor characteristic of aged tea.

This tea is particularly good at inducing hui gan and saliva production.

Best for: Due to these qualities, it is highly recommended as a daily drinking tea.

Brewing Guide

Water: fully boiling, 100°C (212°F).

  1. Warm the pot and cups, then add about 5g of leaf per 100ml.
  2. Rinse the leaves once with boiling water and let them rest, covered, for about 10 minutes.
  3. Steep the first rounds for 10–15 seconds, adding about 5 seconds with each round.
  4. Pour every steep into a fairness pitcher before serving.
  5. Serve. Sheng puerh resteeps well for many rounds.

Treat these as starting points rather than fixed rules. Try high or low pours, fast or slow, and brew in different seasons to find the method that suits you. Brewing the same tea well in any year, season, weather or place takes practice, and that skill is the real goal.

Storage

Keep the tea ventilated, cool and dry, away from sunlight and strong odors (kitchen spices, smoke). For long-term aging, paper or clay containers breathe better than sealed plastic.

Naturally stored in Guangzhou, this tea has been aged under ideal conditions to enhance its distinct properties.

A Note on Appearance

Not every cake shows these, but they can occur, especially in teas with more years of storage.

  • Bamboo powder (zhu fen): a natural sign of traditional bamboo-husk packing. In Guangdong's warm, humid climate, tiny bamboo insects can make their home in the husk, nibbling the husk and cotton paper wrapper while leaving the tea itself untouched. What they leave behind is a fine powder, seen only on certain teas and more often on aged ones. It is harmless to hygiene; a few strokes with a clean toothbrush or soft brush before brewing is all it takes.
  • Tea oil spots: yellowish spots may appear and can come from natural tea oils. They are not a flaw.
  • Torn wrapper: small tears or holes in the cotton paper may happen during storage and handling. The tea inside is unaffected.

Great first aged sheng

This was my first aged sheng and is amazing - very balanced, almost no astringency, slight tang on tongue transforming to long-lasting huigan. It has an engaging/lingering mouthfeel and complex flavor of wood, herbal medicine, and dark fruit that change throughout the session. Definitely will reorder more for daily drinking

Surprised at how good it is.

I got one of these to compare to a similar cake I bought from another vendor. I didn't really think anything this old priced at $20 would be very good, but when I finally got around to trying it, it turned out to be really nice tea for the price. Then I got a tong for a daily drinker. Not a lot of things out of there that are both cheap and good. This one is.

A great everyday sheng

Based upon reviews, I rolled the dice and bought a tong of this tea. I'm glad I did! The flavor is very balanced with very little astringency and great energy. It's a bit on the milder side in terms of flavor, but the leaf quality is excellent and the compression is such that once you get the cake started, you can usually pull of a piece by hand. Overall it's an excellent value.

Great tea for this price

The aroma of dry tea is restrained, with light notes of dried fruits. From the second brewing, it opens with sweetness with notes of tobacco. There is no bitterness, while the taste profile is quite interesting.
