XiaGuan "Te Ji" (Special Grade) Tuo, a 100g Puerh Sheng Cha (Raw Tea), is an exceptional series that began in 2003 with the aim of surpassing the JiaJi tuo cha in quality. The "Te Ji," meaning "Special Grade" and denoted by the characters “特级,” utilizes tea materials of a superior grade compared to those in the JiaJi series. Recognized in the market as "TeTuo," this series was officially renamed in 2016 to “特沱,” an abbreviation of “TeJiTuoCha.”

Packaging and Design:

  • This tea is distinguishable by its trademark featuring a "Pine tree and Crane" printed on the wrapper, a symbol of its quality and heritage.
  • Available in various packaging styles, including simple wrappers and paper boxes, the "Te Ji" series offers versatility in presentation, with weights available in 100g and 250g options.

Taste Profile:

  • The higher grade of tea materials results in a more astringent flavor than the JiaJi tuo cha.
  • It opens with a fragrant aroma and a rich mouthfeel, particularly noticeable in the first half of the tea session.
  • The tea exhibits a pronounced bitterness and maintains a high level of smokiness, characteristic of its bold profile.
  • Both HuiGan (the returning sweetness) and ShengJin (saliva production) occur swiftly, enhancing the drinking experience.
  • However, since 2011, there has been a shift in the series, with the smokiness and bitterness becoming more subdued, making its flavor profile more appealing to a broader range of consumers, including those new to puerh tea.
