About Fu Tea Pillars

This "Fu Cha Zhu" is crafted from black coarse tea (heimaocha) using time-honored hand-pressing techniques. Each pillar weighs 700g, and when stored correctly in a clean, ventilated, dry, cool, and pollution-free environment, it can be preserved indefinitely, allowing its flavors to evolve beautifully over time.

The Essence of Tradition

Hand-Crafted for Perfection: The "Fu Cha Zhu" is a masterpiece of traditional craftsmanship. The tea leaves are meticulously hand-pressed, ensuring a looser structure that's easier to pry apart and promotes optimal "golden flower" (Eurotium cristatum) development and a rich, mellow taste. This pure hand-pressing technique revives the classic taste from the very origin of Fu Tea.

Thoughtful Packaging: Each "Fu Cha Zhu" is thoughtfully wrapped in zongzi leaves and then secured with a coarse cloth bag. This traditional packaging allows the tea to "breathe" freely, encouraging a more thorough and beneficial transformation of the tea leaves.

Aged to Perfection: We select premium black coarse tea that has been aged for three years before pressing. This initial aging, which includes two years of natural maturation, helps to remove any "green" notes, setting the stage for optimal "golden flower" formation and a richer, mellower flavor in the finished tea pillar.

Sourced from the Mountains

The raw materials for this "Fu Cha Zhu" come from the high-altitude tea gardens of the Qinba Mountains. The tea leaves are carefully selected and then aged for two years, further mellowing their character and contributing to the tea pillar's remarkably smooth and gentle taste.

Unveiling the "Golden Flowers"

You might wonder why you don't see "golden flowers" on the surface of Fu Brick tea. As a fermented tea, the "golden flowers" (Eurotium cristatum) develop inside the tea brick during fermentation. You'll need a tea knife to pry open the brick to reveal them. The abundance and distribution of these "golden flowers" are crucial indicators of a Fu Brick tea's quality.

The Role of Tea Stems

It's common to find a moderate amount of tea stems in Fu Brick tea, and for good reason! The production process for Fu Brick tea is complex, and the materials are meticulously chosen. An appropriate quantity of stems helps to ensure the brick's ideal firmness, promotes proper fermentation, and facilitates the formation of "golden flowers." Furthermore, mature tea stems contribute to the sweetness of Fu Tea and enhance its pleasant aftertaste.
