Brewing Tips:

To best appreciate the delicate nuances of this A+ Black Tea:

  • Gaiwan or Teapot Method:

    • Tea Quantity: Use approximately 3-5 grams of tea leaves per 150ml of water. Adjust according to your preferred strength.
    • Water Temperature: Use water heated to 90-95°C (194-203°F). Water that is too hot might overpower the delicate flavors of a spring black tea.
    • Rinse (Optional but Recommended): A brief rinse (5-10 seconds) with hot water can help awaken the leaves, especially for the first brew. Discard the rinse.
    • Infusion Times:
      • 1st Infusion: 15-20 seconds
      • 2nd-3rd Infusions: 20-30 seconds
      • Subsequent Infusions: Gradually increase steeping time by 10-15 seconds for each subsequent brew. This tea can typically be infused 4-6 times, revealing different facets of its flavor.
  • Western Style Brewing:

    • Tea Quantity: Use about 2-3 grams per 250ml (8oz) cup.
    • Water Temperature: 90-95°C (194-203°F).
    • Infusion Time: Steep for 2-3 minutes. Adjust to your desired strength.

Storage Tips:

To preserve the freshness and delicate aroma of your "Xiao Zhong - Yuan Wei" Black Tea:

  • Airtight Container: Always store the tea in an airtight, opaque container to protect it from light, moisture, and strong odors. Ceramic jars or thick-gauge resealable bags are ideal.
  • Cool & Dry Place: Keep the container in a cool, dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and strong-smelling items (like spices or coffee).
  • No Refrigeration: Black teas generally do not require refrigeration. The consistent temperature and humidity of a cool, dry pantry are ideal for long-term storage. Avoid freezing.

Good morning tea

This tea has a good complexity, smooth texture, and relaxed yet sufficent energy. Oftentimes if I couldn't decide what tea i would drink to start the day, this one is the go to option. It tastes like campfire toasted marshmellow, with some deep roasted notes, showing no bitterness, slight sourness. I enjoy it pure, both gong fu/ thermos brewing styles. It is also great to mix with many other teas, for example some light/floral white tea, or something extremly bitter/astringent like a thermos brewed Ya Bao. This tea is an all-rounder. Personally, I enjoy it any time during the day and in any weather.
