Product Name: 2024 CNNP Liu Bao "Bao Lan - Er Ji" (Baolan - 2nd Grade)
Category: Liu Bao Dark Tea
Origin: Wuzhou, Guangxi, China
Net Weight: 200g per box
Tea Characteristics:

Crafted from 2nd Grade tea leaves, this edition began aging in 2021 and was expertly processed into its final form in 2024. It is distinguished by its pronounced "betel nut fragrance" (lang xiang wei). The tea leaves are tightly rolled, exhibiting a glossy dark brown color. The brewed liquor reveals a bright, red-amber hue. Upon steeping, it releases a robust betel nut aroma complemented by a refreshing floral honey note. The flavor is bold and full-bodied; as the tea washes over the palate, the betel nut essence intensifies, filling the mouth with a lingering, satisfying depth. The spent leaves display a soft, lustrous brown tone.
Packaging Design:

Inspired by the cultural fusion of Chinese merchants in Southeast Asia during the last century, the packaging blends traditional Southern Chinese aesthetics with tropical Nanyang (Southeast Asian) flair. Featuring a retro banana-leaf green as the primary color, accented with touches of brick red and intricate vintage patterns, the design exudes sophistication and nostalgia. This packaging faithfully replicates the compact specifications of the original last-century editions, preserving the timeless flavor across generations.
Tasting Notes:
  • Aroma: Intense betel nut fragrance with a cooling floral honey undertone
  • Flavor: Rich and robust, with a prominent betel nut character and enduring finish
  • Color: Vibrant red-amber, clear and striking
The 2024 CNNP Liu Bao "Baolan - 2nd Grade" offers a refined taste of heritage, encapsulating the essence of a storied past in every sip.

The "Baolan" Liu Bao tea, affectionately known as "Bao Lan" among tea aficionados, traces its origins to the esteemed Chen Chun Lan Tobacco and Tea Company, a predecessor of Chen Chun Lan Co., Ltd. Established in 1885 as the Chen Chun Lan Baoding Tea House, this renowned tea merchant, headquartered in Hong Kong, has long been a key player in the trade of tobacco and tea, with a significant focus on Liu Bao tea.
Historical Legacy:

During its heyday, Chen Chun Lan Tea House was a dominant force in the Liu Bao tea trade across Malaysia, operating numerous branches throughout the region. At the peak of its prosperity, the company imported 300 baskets of Liu Bao tea—each weighing 50 kilograms—every three months. This tea was distributed wholesale to local restaurants, general stores, and tin mines, while also being sold directly to the public. Celebrated for its rich flavor and affordable price, "Baolan" earned widespread recognition in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, establishing itself as a legendary name in the history of Liu Bao tea commerce.
Chen Chun Lan Co., Ltd. in Malaysia maintained a strong partnership with the China Tea Wuzhou Company (and its predecessors), playing a pivotal role in introducing Liu Bao tea to the global stage. The "Baolan" brand, as a living testament to this era, reflects the grandeur of this vibrant trade history and its contribution to the development of Liu Bao tea.
