Description:

The 2007 XiaGuan "Si Hao" Cake stands as a testament to XiaGuan's commitment to excellence, offering tea enthusiasts a remarkable blend that captures the essence of tradition and quality. This tea, part of the "Si Hao" series initiated in 2006, draws inspiration from the esteemed "Purple Dayi - 7542" blend crafted by Menghai Tea Factory in 2001, reflecting a rich heritage and exceptional flavor profile.

Tea Composition:

  • Tea Leaves:
    • Crafted from meticulously selected tea leaves, this cake boasts tight and neat tea threads, indicative of XiaGuan's dedication to quality and craftsmanship. The wooden flavor adds a unique dimension to the overall experience.
  • Aroma and Taste:
    • Upon infusion, the tea reveals a clear liquor color with brightness and density, inviting you to indulge in its rich aroma and complex flavor profile. The sweetness is complemented by a subtle smoky undertone, creating a harmonious balance of flavors.

Flavor Profile:

  • Appearance:
    • The tea cake exhibits a tea oil-stained wrapper, a characteristic feature that does not affect its quality or taste. Despite this, the tea maintains its exceptional appearance, reflecting the purity and integrity of XiaGuan's craftsmanship.
  • Sensation:
    • With each sip, the tea envelops the palate with its rich, smooth, and mellow texture, imparting a sense of roundness and depth. The medium to light level of bitterness and astringency adds complexity to the flavor profile, while the excellent Huigan (returning sweetness) and saliva-producing properties enhance the overall drinking experience. The tea's resilience and softness further contribute to its well-balanced character.

Storage Conditions:

  • Storage:
    • The tea has been carefully stored under Guangzhou's natural storage conditions, allowing it to mature gracefully while preserving its original flavors and aroma.

The 2007 XiaGuan "Si Hao" Cake is a remarkable offering that exemplifies XiaGuan's legacy of quality and innovation. As a tea that pays homage to tradition while embracing modern techniques, it promises to elevate your tea-drinking experience and delight your senses with its exceptional flavor and aroma.

I drank this for the first time today after receiving it a few days ago. I enjoyed it very much. It doesn’t have a flavor that’s very distinctive in any particular way, but even though it’s an iron-pressed cake and I couldn’t manage to chisel off a chunk without creating a lot of dust, it didn’t get overly bitter or astringent. If you’re looking for a “daily drinker”, look no further. However, if you’re looking for something with a particularly “interesting” flavor, this might not be what you’re looking for. I will be interested in seeing whether this tastes different after acclimating to my storage for a few weeks.
