Appearance Tight, neatly curled dark-brown tea threads with a lustrous, slightly reddish sheen. The dry leaves release an inviting natural fragrance the moment the bag is opened.

Liquor Bright, clear amber with a reddish-golden glow.

Aroma & Flavor Rich honey-like sweetness layered with ripe fruit (stone fruit, longan) and delicate floral notes. The taste is smooth and full-bodied, naturally sweet, with minimal bitterness and a pleasant, mouth-watering quality. It produces abundant saliva and delivers a clean, lasting huigan (sweet aftertaste) that lingers elegantly on the palate.

Body Feel Balanced and comfortable cha qi (tea energy) – calming yet clear-headed, with the gentle relaxing effect typical of high-quality GABA oolong.

Why Tea Lovers Appreciate It Exceptional leaf grade, clean processing, and the signature GABA richness make every session enjoyable and rewarding.

Brewing Tips (Gaiwan or Teapot – Recommended)

  • Leaf-to-water ratio: 5–6 g per 100–120 ml
  • Water temperature: 95–98 °C (just off the boil)
  • First infusion: 15–20 seconds
  • Subsequent infusions: add 5–10 seconds each time
  • Can easily yield 8–10 flavorful infusions with proper technique
  • For a softer, sweeter profile: use slightly cooler water (90 °C) and shorter steeps.
  • Grandpa-style (bowl brewing): 3–4 g in a large cup or bowl, top up with hot water all day – the sweetness and fragrance hold up beautifully.

Storage Tips

  • Keep in the original vacuum-sealed bag (or transfer to an airtight container) away from light, heat, moisture, and strong odors.
  • Short-term (within 6–8 months): store at room temperature in a cool, dark cupboard.
  • Long-term (1–3 years): refrigerate or freeze in the sealed bag. Before opening, allow the bag to return to room temperature to avoid condensation. Once opened, consume within 2–3 months for best aroma and freshness.

King Tea Mall – GABA Oolong Tea (Gabaron Tea)

GABA Oolong Tea, also known as Gabaron Tea, is a special type of oolong tea developed in Japan in the late 1980s. It is produced through a unique anaerobic fermentation process that significantly increases the natural content of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a non-protein amino acid that acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the human brain.

How GABA Oolong is Made

Fresh tea leaves are placed in a sealed, oxygen-free (nitrogen-filled) environment for several hours. During this anaerobic treatment, glutamic acid in the leaves is converted into GABA. This processing method can increase GABA content to 150 mg or more per 100 g of dried tea — far higher than regular tea.

Origin & History

The technology was first developed by Japanese researchers in 1987 and later introduced to Taiwan, where high-mountain oolong growing conditions proved ideal for producing high-quality GABA oolong.

Flavor Profile

Because GABA oolong is made from the same Camellia sinensis var. sinensis cultivars used for traditional Taiwanese high-mountain oolong, it retains a clean, floral, and naturally sweet taste with a smooth mouthfeel. Oxidation level varies from light to medium, depending on the producer.

Caffeine Content

Moderate (similar to regular oolong tea, approximately 30–50 mg per 200 ml cup).

Scientifically Documented Benefits

  1. Relaxation & Stress Reduction Several human studies (including a 2019 randomized controlled trial in Australia) showed that consuming GABA tea (containing ≈2 mg GABA per cup) can reduce mental stress markers and improve heart-rate variability shortly after drinking.
  2. Sleep Support GABA acts as a natural relaxant. Combined with L-theanine (naturally present in all real tea), it may help promote calmness and improve sleep quality without causing dependency.
  3. Blood Pressure Support Multiple Japanese and Taiwanese clinical studies have observed mild blood-pressure-lowering effects in people with slightly elevated blood pressure after regular consumption of GABA tea over several weeks.
  4. Antioxidant Properties Like all genuine tea, GABA oolong is rich in polyphenols and catechins, providing strong antioxidant activity comparable to high-quality Taiwanese oolong.

Important Notes (No Exaggeration)

  • GABA oolong is not a medicine and cannot cure anxiety disorders, insomnia, or hypertension.
  • It is not superior in antioxidant capacity to all green or black teas — different teas excel in different polyphenol profiles.
  • The actual amount of GABA absorbed from tea is small compared to what the brain produces naturally or what is found in supplements, but regular consumption still shows measurable physiological effects in clinical trials.

Enjoy GABA Oolong as part of a balanced lifestyle for its pleasant taste and evidence-based calming benefits.
