Introducing a delightful offering from the Meng Hai tea region, this batch is a testament to the art of fine tea production, although it comes with a unique twist. Notably, the first batch of this tea was mislabeled as 200g on the packaging, a detail evident in the attached photo, yet the actual content is richer in experience than what the label suggests.

Crafted from organic tree leaves, this tea is a splendid showcase of the Meng Hai region's natural bounty.

This characteristic makes the tea an excellent choice for newcomers eager to explore the world of aged teas and the unique profiles of the Meng Hai tea region. It serves as a gentle yet profound introduction to the complexities and subtleties of aged teas.

This careful aging process contributes significantly to the tea's character, making it a product of both nature's generosity and human craftsmanship.

In summary, this tea from the Meng Hai region, with its erroneously printed 200g label, is a hidden gem for both beginners and seasoned tea drinkers.

Tea Profile

At a glance: 2005 · Sheng (raw) puerh · 357g cake · LiMing Tea Factory

The tea strikes a delightful balance in taste, featuring a light to medium level of bitterness coupled with a pleasant astringency. This harmonious blend results in a clean and naturally aged character, defined by its mellow and smooth essence.

One of the most remarkable features of this tea is its hui gan, or sweet aftertaste, which arrives promptly and is accompanied by a generous production of saliva, enhancing the overall tasting experience. The taste is varied and colorful, providing a spectrum of flavors that unfold gradually with each sip.

The lingering aftertaste is particularly noteworthy, as it extends the enjoyment of the tea, leaving a lasting impression of satisfaction.

Its balanced and nuanced flavor profile offers a reliable and enjoyable experience that can be revisited day after day.

Best for: Furthermore, for seasoned tea enthusiasts, this tea stands out as an excellent option for daily consumption. Its organic origin, balanced taste, and satisfying aftertaste, all nurtured under Guangzhou's natural storage conditions, make it a remarkable choice for anyone looking to deepen their appreciation of aged teas.

Brewing Guide

Water: rolling boil, 100°C (212°F).

  1. Rinse teaware with hot water; use roughly 5g of tea for each 100ml of vessel.
  2. Give the leaves one quick rinse, then cover and rest about 10 minutes to wake them up.
  3. Begin with 10–15 second steeps, lengthening each by about 5 seconds.
  4. Decant fully into a sharing pitcher each time.
  5. Enjoy — good sheng keeps giving for many infusions.

Use this as a starting point, not a fixed formula. Play with pour height and speed, and notice how the tea answers in different weather and seasons. Learning to brew one tea well anywhere, anytime is the real craft.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place with gentle airflow, out of direct light and away from strong smells such as cooking spices or smoke. If you plan to age it for years, breathable paper or clay storage suits puerh better than airtight plastic.

Aged under the natural storage conditions of Guangzhou, the tea has developed a depth and richness that only time can bestow.

A Note on Appearance

Not every cake shows these, but they can occur, especially in teas with more years of storage.

  • Bamboo powder (zhu fen): a natural sign of traditional bamboo-husk packing. In Guangdong's warm, humid climate, tiny bamboo insects can make their home in the husk, nibbling the husk and cotton paper wrapper while leaving the tea itself untouched. What they leave behind is a fine powder, seen only on certain teas and more often on aged ones. It is harmless to hygiene; a few strokes with a clean toothbrush or soft brush before brewing is all it takes.
  • Tea oil spots: yellowish spots may appear and can come from natural tea oils. They are not a flaw.
  • Torn wrapper: small tears or holes in the cotton paper may happen during storage and handling. The tea inside is unaffected.

Great Daily Drinker

This tea is well aged, and has a very intense fragrance. The product is still quite fresh even after a few decades of aging. It displays a mineralic green astringency along with very nice fragrance, returning sweetness, and a soft numbing effect on the palate. The tea is quite viscous, and takes on many steeps. I initially got a sample of this and ended up buying a whole cake.

Good value for money

Nicely aged. Smoky, thick, smooth and lots of steeps. A very nice middle aged Puer.

Very good

Five stars for the value for money, an economical but well aged tea, very pleasant to drink, good resistance to infusions.
An excellent choice if you are looking for a mature tea but without paying a fortune
