Product Overview

Harvested in 2017 in the heart of Fuding, this A+++ grade Shou Mei has undergone nearly a decade of natural aging. While fresh white tea is prized for its floral delicacy, this 2017 vintage has transformed into a sophisticated aged tea, encapsulating the rich essence of its original season through years of slow oxidation and transformation.

Sensory Profile

  • Appearance: The loose leaves have transitioned into a deep, dark color palette of mahogany and charcoal-brown, interspersed with occasional silver tips that have mellowed with age.

  • Aroma: The profile has evolved from the grassy notes of youth into a complex, medicinal, and herbal-like fragrance. A distinct "aged tea" scent (Chen Xiang) is present, offering a grounding and earthy bouquet.

  • Liquor: The tea pours a brilliant, deep amber hue, showcasing its cleanliness and maturity.

  • Taste: Exceptionally mellow and thick on the palate. The mouthfeel is notably smooth and soothing, lacking any harshness or astringency. It delivers a natural, clean taste followed by a long, lingering sweetness (Hui Gan) that coats the throat.

Brewing Recommendations

  • Vessel: A porcelain Gaiwan is excellent for clarity, though a purple clay (Yixing) teapot or a ceramic pot is highly recommended for aged white tea to enhance its thickness and warmth.

  • Water Temperature: 95–100°C. Unlike young white teas, this aged vintage requires high heat to fully extract the deep herbal notes and "aged" character.

  • Tea-to-Water Ratio: 5–7g of tea per 120–150ml of water.

  • Steeping Time: * Initial Infusions: 10–15 seconds.

    • Later Infusions: Gradually increase the time.

    • Note: This tea is also an excellent candidate for simmering (boiling the leaves) after several infusions to draw out the final layers of honey-like sweetness.

Summary Description

The 2017 Aged Shou Mei is a testament to the beauty of time. Having matured for years in loose-leaf form, the leaves have developed a dark, rustic appearance and a profound herbal aroma. This tea is defined by its remarkable thickness and soothing smoothness. Each sip provides a grounded, natural flavor profile that culminates in a deep, lasting sweetness. Perfect for those seeking a calming, digestive, and well-transformed aged white tea experience.

Subtle, sweet, tasty

A very pleasant white tea! It has some „raw“ and slightly wild taste, but in a very subtle way. Like it a lot!
