The 2012 "Gu Shu Shai Hong" is an extraordinary loose leaf Dian Hong tea, crafted from the sun-dried leaves of ancient trees in the lush, high-altitude regions of Fengqing, Yunnan. This tea, a rare find, is produced from spring-harvested leaves, handpicked from trees that are between 100 to 300 years old, thriving at elevations of 1800m to 2000m in Fengqing County.

These venerable trees yield long, tight tea threads that are dark in color, rich in heritage, and steeped in an aged tea flavor that is both complex and profound. The leaves' visual allure is a prelude to the exceptional taste they offer.

Upon brewing, this "Gu Shu Shai Hong" reveals its distinct character, a delightful mellow, smooth, and sweet taste that is the hallmark of its exceptional quality. Unlike typical Dian Hong teas, which undergo roasting, this Shai Hong variety is sun-dried. This traditional drying technique is crucial in developing its unique flavor profile.

The sun-drying process bestows the tea with a refreshing flavor, a mellow thickness, and a subtle Huigan (returning sweetness) that is reminiscent of Sheng Puerh tea. This method also helps in retaining the tea's natural saliva-stimulating properties, enhancing the overall sensory experience.

Another noteworthy aspect of this tea is its caffeine content, which stands at approximately 3.56%. This level provides a gentle, stimulating effect, making it an ideal choice for those seeking the benefits of caffeine without overwhelming intensity.

Overall, the 2012 "Gu Shu Shai Hong" is more than just a tea; it is a rare gem that offers a glimpse into the rich tea heritage of Yunnan. Its unique sun-dried process, combined with the age and origin of its leaves, makes it a highly sought-after choice for tea connoisseurs and enthusiasts looking to explore the depths of traditional Chinese tea.

This made me give black tea another chance

I usually don't enjoy black tea because I'm so used to those in tea bags, and even some loose tea leaves were unremarkable. But when I got to taste Gu Shu Shai Hong from King Tea Mall I instantly fell in love with sweet and rich flavors and fragrant aroma. Made me give black tea another chance.
