Chaozhou Ceramic Kettle
In Chaozhou gongfu tea, water is boiled in a sha diao, a small ceramic kettle made of red clay, set on a small charcoal or electric stove next to the tea table. Together with the stove, the teapot and the small cups, the kettle is one of the classic tools of the Chaozhou tea set.
Our Sha Diao kettle is a sha diao hand formed from local Chaozhou red clay. It holds 500ml, a good size for one person or a small group of friends. The body is 12cm wide and 8cm tall, and the 6.5cm mouth is easy to fill and clean. Clay heats gently and evenly, and many tea drinkers feel that water boiled in a clay kettle tastes softer and rounder, which helps the tea show its best.
A sha diao is best used on a stove made for it, and it should be heated slowly when first used. For stoves and other tools, see our Chaozhou gongfu teaware collections. King Tea Mall is an online shop based in Guangzhou, China.
