The JianZhan Porcelain "Gai Wan" presented here is a splendid piece of craftsmanship from Jianshui, located in the Fujian province of China. Esteemed for its 140ml capacity, this "Gai Wan" is a perfect instrument for performing the Chinese Gongfu Tea ceremony with grace and tradition.

The glaze on this "Gai Wan" is what sets it apart from more common porcelain like Qinghua (Blue and White China) or Baici (White Porcelain). It exhibits a multi-color palette, with intricate patterns unique to each piece. The result is an impressive display of color that ensures every "Gai Wan" is one-of-a-kind.

Included with each "Gai Wan" is a certificate of authenticity from the author, affirming its originality and the artisan's dedication to quality.

The "Gai Wan," or "San Gai Wan," comprises three parts

: the lid, body, and saucer, which work together to steep tea to perfection. The lid traps the aroma and flavors during infusion, the body holds the tea and water, and the saucer serves as a base for stability and heat insulation.

To use this JianZhan "Gai Wan" in the Gongfu tea ceremony:

  1. Place 4-8 grams of tea leaves into the body of the "Gai Wan."
  2. Pour water heated to the optimal temperature over the leaves. For green or black teas, the water should be around 85-92 degrees Celsius.
  3. Cover with the lid and then promptly pour out the water. This rinse awakens the tea leaves, preparing them for the first infusion.
  4. Proceed with the steeping, pouring, and enjoying of the tea soup. With each infusion, you may choose to slightly increase the steeping duration to extract the full breadth of flavors, as per your personal taste preference.

This "Gai Wan" is not merely a teaware item; it's a piece of JianZhan artistry that brings an authentic and unique beauty to the tea-drinking experience, making it a treasured gift for any tea enthusiast or a significant addition to one's collection of tea ceremony implements.
