2025 early-spring Lao Cong Mi Lan Xiang from old bushes, heavy roasted, from a dry spring.

Tea Profile

At a glance: 2025 Early Spring · Phoenix Dan Cong oolong (Fenghuang, Chaozhou) · Heavy roast · our A+++ grade · Sample 7g to 1000g

  • Dry leaf: Large, robust, tightly rolled threads.
  • Aroma: Orchid with spicy undertones and honey-like sweetness.
  • Taste: Round, with depth.
  • Mouthfeel & body: Thick, smooth and resilient.
  • Aftertaste: Strong and lingering.
  • Good to know: Low rainfall in spring 2025 gave the leaves a more concentrated flavor.
  • Best for: Daily cups of Phoenix Dan Cong oolong; a comfortable start for beginners.

Brewing Guide

  1. Measure about 6–7g for every 100ml of your gaiwan or pot.
  2. Bring water to 100°C (212°F).
  3. Do one quick rinse to wake the leaves.
  4. Keep early steeps short (5–10 seconds) and lengthen by about 5 seconds.
  5. Empty the pot completely into a fair cup each round.

Use this as a guide, not a rule; play with time and amount until it suits you.

Storage

Seal it well and keep it away from light, damp and odors. Roasted oolong keeps well at room temperature.

About the Leaf

These can show up now and then:

  • Some stems and broken pieces: normal for hand-sorted loose oolong, and they brew just as well.
  • Darker, glossier leaf: this is the roast, not spoilage.

Great tea

I've had quite a bit of this tea already, and I can say it's very high quality and tastes amazing. It smells so good and really has a honey scent. The price is great. I highly recommend it.

Great for the Price!

I came into this already a fan of Mi Lan Xiang, so went ahead and ordered 200g, which brought the price per gram down a bit. This was much cheaper than other Mi Lan Xiangs I have tried, so I was curious what the tradeoff would be. I was prepared for maybe high astringency, bitterness, weird flavor profile, etc., but didn't find any of that. Actually the main things I noticed were that the intensity of certain aromas and flavors (especially the "top notes") wasn't quite as high, and the leaves seem a bit larger. However, it is still smooth and when extending the brewing time a little, a bold roasty tea. It has the recognizable flavors I expect from Mi Lan Xiang, and is durable enough. So, I am quite happy to find a Mi Lan Xiang in the "daily drinker" price range and will probably buy it again in the future. Great value!
