Product Overview

Gougunao green tea originates from Suichuan County, Jiangxi Province, situated at the southern foothills of the Luoxiao Mountains. The tea derives its name from Mount Gougunao, whose silhouette resembles a dog’s head. Established in 1796 (the first year of the Jiaqing reign, Qing Dynasty), this tea carries a prestigious history as a tribute tea.

It is internationally recognized for its quality, securing Gold Medals at the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and the 2015 Milan Expo.

Sensory Profile

  • Appearance: Slender, slightly curved leaves covered in fine down. The uniform A-grade selection displays a soft matte green tone with silvery highlights.

  • Aroma: Clean and refined. Notes of steamed greens and fresh bean are followed by a subtle chestnut nuance characteristic of traditional wok-firing.

  • Palate: Light-to-medium body with a smooth entry. It features a focused vegetal sweetness reminiscent of tender shoots, balanced by a gentle nutty undertone and minimal bitterness.

  • Finish: A soft, gradual returning sweetness (Hui Gan) at the back of the palate, leaving a clean and slightly cooling sensation.

Technical Specifications

  • Harvest: Spring 2026

  • Storage: Seal in an airtight, opaque container. Refrigeration (0–5°C / 32–41°F) is essential to preserve delicate aromatics and prevent oxidation of the "tender-green" oils.

  • Shelf Life: 18 months

Brewing Recommendations

This tea is celebrated for its unique vertical leaf movement during infusion.

  • Water: Mineral or soft filtered water.

  • Temperature: 80–85°C (176–185°F).

  • The Glass Method (Recommended): Use a tall glass to observe the leaves. Fill 1/3 with water, add ~4g of tea, swirl gently, then fill to volume. The leaves will rise and descend, eventually aligning vertically.

  • Steeping: Notably durable for a green tea, maintaining stability over 6–8 infusions.
